Ask me about tv shows, books, characters, kinks, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you've always wanted to know.

You can also ask about the professional writing stuff and RPG writing if you are so acquainted/inclined."

Okay... if you were ggoing to Authorially Insert...

1. Which of your fandoms would you want to be in?

2. Which do you think you would be most believable in?

3. Which do you think you'd be most entertaining to the reader in?
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 4th, 2011 02:54 am (UTC) (Link)

Mmmmm....

1. I'd really LOVE to be in Atlantis. I'd drive Rodney crazy and I'd chase John around with a comb and mousse. But seriously, I'd really LOVE to be on Atlantis. I'd love to be a researcher there. :)
2. I always figure out the murderers before the script writers drop enough clues, so I'd have to go with TS. Of course, then Jim wouldn't need his senses because I'd just say, "Oh, he's the biggest guest star - so he did it." OTOH, this would be a good thing because Jim and Blair could then spend all their time where they belong - in bed. :)
3. Anyone who drives Rodney crazy and chases after John would have to be entertaining. I'd also spend a lot of time finding reasons (starting with season 4) for Carter to be back at the SGC and then in Season 5, for Woolsey to be at the SGC, thus leaving Teyla in charge so John and Rodney could spend all their time: 1) running from me and 2) making out in all the secret places they found to get away from me. But the best reason I'd be entertaining to the readers, especially those who love both SG1 and SGA is that I'd find LOTS of reasons for Daniel to be there. "But Rodney, ONLY Daniel can translate this and once he does, only YOU can then make it work and thus save all our LIVES! But me and Zelenka (when not going at it like bunnies) can help enough so that you and John have plenty of ... you know ... private time." *smirks*

Your turn. :)

*curious*

How do you do when you're about to write a longer story? Do you go through steps or just write it all down from your head?

Re: *curious*

I *never* know. Something triggers a story (a song, one scene, a line of dialogue in my head) and the story is born. Then I'd start typing and the story would take over and I just followed along.

Although, I think I could have self-edited a bit better as I have a few stories (especially in SG1) that probably would have been if they'd been a series instead of one long story (like, maybe Lifetime).

I've rarely ever used any formula, no outline or anything like that, and it's gotten me into trouble later when a story approaches novel length because I'd forget the names of original characters, etc. LOL! I finally started stopping, going back, and writing them down and the spelling I used so I'd get them right if popped up later on! *b*

I *still* have trouble remembering the name I gave Blair's father in the Jake Universe stories - and I used to constantly misspell the name of the apartment complex I had Blair moved into (The Anjasmayo) *g*).

Re: *curious*

Thank you. :)
It's interesting to know, because I'm still learning to write.

Which story(ies) do you recall most often and why?

which story(ies) do you most want to go back and fiddle with and why?

Is there a kink you just couldn't bring yourself to write about but really wanted to?

Were there any episodes of SG1 you wanted to write a story for but never got around to it?

Have you got any stories squirrelled away, not finished etc, that might get posted in future?

I adored how you wrote Daniel in particular in all of your wonderful SG1 stories, did his character (in your stories) come only from the show or did you use something/one from real life?

A question I've always wanted to ask....Please feel free to ignore this next bit :-) After watching the SG1 episode Foothold I thought it would be a great stepping off point for a Sideburns story, the whole episode had Daniel forgotten and ignored, which is how I read Daniel in some of your stories. So the question would be, did you ever think about accepting prompts etc to help start a story?

I also wanted to say thank you for all your stories I've loved every one of them :-) and I look forward to new ones in any fandom!

Wow! :)

1. Which story(ies) do you recall most often and why?

I guess I have a couple: In no particular order (TS first): "Click-Click". It was my first story from another POV and I was kind of proud of it. "Silent Night" because I really wanted to do a 'miracle' story and I think I pulled it off. "Interrogation" because I managed to write it so that it ended up truly as a surprise to folks by the time they got to the ending. And of course, the Jake Universe stories. :) But that's about it in TS. In SG1, "Chasing the Years" a little read story from Jack's POV that I actually loved. I think I captured the Jack I saw, the one who could fall for Daniel, a guy. :) Then, "Reflections of You" my one and only story using the quantum mirror, and finally, another little read story, "In Memory of Those Who Came Before", which was my attempt at a future story that also explained what really happened in the episode 1969. I think so many folks thought it was a story where J/D were dead - and of course, that's not the case since I could never do that. *g* But I liked it because I thought it recognized the SGC properly (certainly better than the actual writers had), had several Original Characters I liked...and so on...yadda yadda *g*.

2. which story(ies) do you most want to go back and fiddle with and why?

All of them in TS (that I haven't already done) but very few in SG1 (since most were written as I'd improved). In the beginning, I just wrote - it was like 'you-know-what' of the mouth'!! LOL! As a result, punctuation and grammar, my dots and dashes and the use of 'and', not to mention commas, was truly pitiful.

3. "Is there a kink you just couldn't bring yourself to write about but really wanted to?"

A few years ago, in the TS fandom, Dolimir wrote a story where Blair and Jim discovered they were brothers. She then dared a group of us to write a follow-up that brought Jim and Blair together in a sexual relationship. I was tempted to do incest as she'd really given us no choice, but then I had a epiphany and figured out to get out of the web she'd woven so well - and voila, I managed to write them in love without any incest! LOL! So yes, I was tempted, but just couldn't do it. :)

4. "Were there any episodes of SG1 you wanted to write a story for but never got around to it?"

Oh, yeah, I have a Forever and a Day story in my head, and an AU version of Ark of Truth and Continuum. Oh, and an unfinished story that ties up both the endings to SG1 and SGA which, needless to say, I didn't like. :)

5. "Have you got any stories squireled away, not finished etc, that might get posted in future?"

I do. Several. But unless something drastic changes in my life, they'll remain unfinished. :(

6. "I adored how you wrote Daniel in particular in all of your wonderful SG1 stories, did his character (in your stories) come only from the show or did you use something/one from real life?"

I wrote Daniel as I honestly saw him on the show, had the writers acknowledged the original Daniel from the movie instead of shifting all the brilliance to Sam (no offense to Sam *g*). I saw him as a very complicated character, with an enlarged view of life and few restrictions within his brain, meaning that he could grasp so many concepts that most of us can't. *shrug*

7. I actually have an unfinished story/missing scene to that episode. :) Again, should my situation change, yeah, it would probably be right up there to finish because it wouldn't take much.

I also wanted to say thank you for all your stories I've loved every one of them :-) and I look forward to new ones in any fandom!

Thank YOU! You made my year. :)

Re: Wow! :)

Many thanks for answering! I love these types of question/answers you get to see your favourite authors/stories from a different point of view.

1) I'm off to read those stories again, it'll be interesting to read them after your comments.

2) I find that I like to read a good story whether it has perfect punctuation or don't forget a lot of great writers aren't very good at all that stuff and rely on their editors to fix them :-)

3) Would you remember the name of the story I would love to see how you found a way around it?

4) Yeah the endings of the series weren't my favourite eps either, I much prefer fan endings, one day they'll ask the fans how they should end! Should it ever get posted I know your's will be the best!

5) I hope your life becomes one that will allow them to be finished and they get posted one day, I'll keep my fingers crossed :-)

6) That's how I saw him too, I loved the Sam character (strong intelligent woman!) but it did seem to take something away from Daniels character, your version seemed to be a purer form of Daniel.

7) I had hoped it would fire your imagination, I always thought it was odd how none of the team wondered where he was or even tried to find Daniel and what the aliens were doing to him? he wasn't even in the room where Jack was hanging? Should your situation change I look forward to it.

I'm happy it made your year, your stories always make my year :-)
