Stargate is dead. Long live Stargate.
For me, it's hard to believe this franchise has been part of my life for FOURTEEN years (and yes, DAMN IT, the franchise will continue to be a part of it thanks to reruns and fiction!) but even so, now that it's really gone, I find myself extremely sad. It's like yes, I know it was dead, but as long as no one actually confirmed it - there was hope. But now, Brad Wright has stated there will be absolutely NO movies for any of the shows, no final episodes to tie up loose ends (none needed for SG1, other than the marriage of Jack and Daniel, of course *snerk*), no more anything. He's clearing his desk of all things Stargate. :( But thank God for the fans who are showing both their sorrow and their love of the shows via more stories and some lovely tribute videos. In fact, I just watched several, but this one...oh, this one video undid me.

SO FAREWELL STARGATE
(and as for the sour-grapes, bastards-of-a-bunch of producers, don't let the door hit you lightly on the way out! Angry? Bitter? Moi? Nah *she says innocently*)

May the Boys at Bridge realize their own egos ruined something that, in spite of dollars, could have continued to lay at least a 12k gold plated egg....

I really hate that b*#@%rd and Malozzi, too. We didn't like his new, darker and edgier baby, so he killed the entire thing.

What an ass.

So true

there were so many ways to get those movies made, but because we didn't like their new toy - they took all their 'balls' away. *snerk* Not that they have any....

PS

When they're broke and no one wants to put one of their projects through, they'll drag this out of the closet and say, "We'll make a Stargate movie!"

They'll come looking for their 'glory days'.

Re: PS

LOL! Good point - greed and an empty pocketbook could do wonders - let's hope they hit that point soon.

the asshats took a thriving property with a gigantic, active & devoted fanbase & pretty much pissed all over it and us. They wanted their shiny new property (sgu) and didn't want us distracted by the old boring show (sga), or worse dvd movies!

The sad thing is, if they had kept SGA on the air then the backlash probably wouldn't have been so ugly. I only watched 2 or 3 episodes of season 1, bored & no one I liked, but I have to admit I watched most of season 2 and the last half was really kicking into something interesting. SGA was thriving, and pairing it with the new series as had been done 5 years earlier would have been the best way to ease into a very new stargate.

The Boyz at Bridge are rat bastards that *did* let their egos and over-inflated sense of genius ruin a franchise, one that could have brought success and a loyal fanbase to the new owners. And i agree with ninja007 below, when the Boyz can't get anything else near to success they will no doubt try to pull out the "oh we can do more Stargate" card--assuming that they have any control over the property at all anymore.

God, I'm so depressed now. I've successfully ignored this fact for ages. Thank all the gods and goddesses for fanfiction and fanvids (tho I don't watch those as often) and fanart. And fans.

Yep, I've said this over and over to my BFF as we mourn the disappearance of SGA. People were willing to give SGA a chance because it was a spin-off, not a replacement. Those idiots decided to shut down SGA when it was doing well, in favor of developing a new toy -- and then were surprised that not all fans welcomed the new toy with open arms. Granted, SGU wasn't to everyone's taste, but I think more fans would have given it a try if they could have kept SGA while testing the waters of SGU. The idiots shot themselves in the foot, and were surprised to find it bleeding.

Yes! As long as fan creativity lives, we'll always have our kick-ass and loving team, watching out for each other, guarding each others' backs physically and emotionally, and (almost) always winning through to a happy ending.

Exactly what you said. When they announced SGA, there were a lot of skeptical fans (as well as a few annoyed that Daniel was cheated again IMO). It was the pairing of SG1 with SGA that allowed the new show to grow as a spin-off, to get through the awkward stages while under the umbrella of a stable & hugely popular SG1.

I think more fans would have given it a try if they could have kept SGA while testing the waters of SGU. The idiots shot themselves in the foot, and were surprised to find it bleeding.

And this. They had the perfect venue for shepherding the new after the old. The idiots still would have gotten their new & shiny & "edgy" (rolls eyes) without pissing everyone else off. Morons.

I will admit I miss the days of everyone posting on Y-groups, ex. AlphaGate, it was a lot easier & generated more of a sense of community with the fannish chatter than searching out the new fic on all the different journals and archives.

I tried... REALLY tried... to give SGU a chance. But when I realized that I'd rather watch re-runs of "White Collar" (Neal Caffrey's the prettiest boy I've seen on TV since Daniel Jackson in SG Season 1 - YUM!), or "Mentalist", or "Burn Notice", instead of cueing up the recorded eps of "SGU" that I hadn't yet felt like watching... I KNEW the Boys At Bridge had a problem. They took a fan who's been hooked for over a decade, attending conventions and writing "Save our show!" letters and basically being an uber-geek for all things Stargate... and they BORED me.

I had high hopes: they had some seriously talented people involved in SGU (Robert Carlyle and Lou Diamond Phillips, and on the creative side they got John Scalzi, whose books I love, as a consultant), but they made ALL the characters SO unlikable! Back when SG1 was new, I thought some of the scripts SUCKED, and they had a bunch of no-name actors as back-up for "MacGyver" (which I'd never watched, since I didn't own a TV when it aired)... but from the start, I loved the characters, especially Daniel. Here's this terribly young, floppy-haired geek-boy with the big glasses and the even-bigger blue eyes, in ill-fitting BDUs, saying "They don't know what to do with me"... and I just wanted to grab him and cuddle him and make things All Better... (Well, so did Jack, obviously!)

They gave me characters I liked, even when they were stuck in godawful scripts like "Emancipation", and I tuned in every week 'cause I wanted to see what they did next.

I think TWIC took the wrong lesson from the fannish rebellion when they tried to kill off Daniel. Instead of thinking: "Wow. We've done a 'Velveteen Rabbit', and created a character so beloved that he's ALIVE!" they decided: "We wanted the show to go THIS way, but this Lovable Character made it go That Other Way. Obviously, we need to make our future Lead Characters more Flawed and less Lovable, so we won't Lose Control of them!"... So, they proceeded to put an Annoying Git who'd been a minor villain on SG-1 into a leading role on SGA... Then, when Rodney (and you CAN'T tell me they initially wanted us to LIKE the guy when they gave him a "Please-beat-me-up-in-the-schoolyard" twit's name like Rodney Meredith McKay!) turned out to be Lovable despite all they did, they went even further with the leads from SGU... and THIS time, succeeded in making a cast of guys we hated (or at least didn't give a damn about).

What a frakkin' WASTE.

Yeppers. My BFF and her hubby are HUGE scifi fans. Since she only knows fandom through me, she wasn't exposed to all the online angst about the cancellation of SGA, and the pre-hatred of SGU. So they tuned in to SGU for several episodes, and it didn't grab either of them.

Now, my BFF was a counselor for many years, has a degree in psychology. She loves to explore the ramifications of what made 'X' do that, what 'X' was hoping to accomplish, how will 'Y' and 'Z' react, and what will happen after that... But even with her intellectual curiosity and fascination with the human mind/psyche, SGU couldn't make her invested in the story they were telling.

"Frakkin' waste" says it all.

I really wanted to like Robert Carlyle's character 'cause I like the actor, and the angst-y back-story sounded interesting. I wanted to like the chubby math-nerd kid; he sorta reminded me of Sam Gamgee from LOTR. I wanted to like Lou Diamond Phillips' character, 'cause I've liked him since he was a cute kid in "La Bamba".

Unfortunately, TWIC made Dr Rush a conniving bastard, Nerd-boy (Eli?) a bit of a creep, and LDP's Col. Whoever-the-f*ck a backstabbing scumbag. *grumph* The more I watched, the more I disliked (eventually, HATED) Rush and Col.Backstabber, and despised the kid... :-(
