O, Spoilers, how you spoil me!
I thought I knew it all, but I was wrong (thanks to a certain actor - under the cut - who brilliantly played us all, not to mention playing a certain producer/creator), and for the first time, I don't want spoilers - and yet, accidentally, I got them! Now I need a new spoiler but alas, can't find it anywhere!

Don't know what I'm talking about? Grey's Anatomy.  Oh, don't give me that look. Yes, it's a silly prime time soap opera, but I LOVE it and unashamedly so. Anyway, if you watch and you caught this last week's episode, and you don't know anything - don't click on the cut.

Okay, so last year, Patrick Dempsey revealed that he wouldn't be returning to Grey's Anatomy for season 9. At the time, in the show, his character was angry at Meredith and had left her - and their new baby, sort of. So of course, I've been on pins and needles with trying to figure out how he'd exit - especially since Derek and Meredith got back together again (duh). So I watched last week's show, figuring it would be safe, since it was NOT the season finale - only to be shocked and distraught by decisions - and - and - and....

...a plane crash. A plane carrying just about EVERYONE except Owen.

Okay....so this is how Patrick/Derek will exit. Which would leave little room for a return (death being so final and all...except on daytime soaps, of course *G*).

Except, today, I decided to find out if my second favorite character played by Kevin McKidd, would be returning (He's Chief of Surgery now, so his fate seems sealed in safety glass, but you never know) and I googled him with regards to Grey's Anatomy and up popped a huge headline that the big names in the show ALL signed for not only season 9 - but season 10 as well.

Meaning: Ellen, Patrick, Sandra, Justin, James and Chandra have all signed for two more years!!!! So much for a cliff-hanger regarding Patrick Dempsey. OTOH, the same article stated someone IS going to die/leave - so that means McSteamy, Callie, Lexie and Arizona are in danger of saying adios. Unless it's the virgin doctor who was supposed to be the Lexie-look-a-like since they made Lexie the Izzy-it-girl, because the virgin doctor is no longer a virgin and she thinks Jesus hates her now (and she DID fail her boards - because, like, Jesus works that way *snort* - NOT), but I'm sorry, that wouldn't be, for me, anything I'd cry over, you know? Which leaves us with:

Mark and Lexie. Star-crossed lovers to the max, plus Lexie is Meredith's half-sister (you're keeping up, right?) and both are on the plane. Personally, I don't see Ms. Rimes giving the axe to McSteamy, you know? So that would mean that just as he'd finally say that he loved Lexie (who just said it to him - and you're still following all of this, right?), she'd die in his arms.

OTOH, we have the lesbian couple, Callie and Arizona. And right now, you just never know where those pesky, religious right folks will pop up to exert their power over TPTB, which could mean our favorite lesbian couple could be torn asunder via Arizona's death. Now again, saying goodbye to Arizona wouldn't be as hard for me as losing Callie. I LOVE Callie and was scared to death when they threw her through a windshield while pregnant (even though it allowed us to have one of those singing episodes and the actors to show off their incredible pipes) - so I'm thinking Callie is safe and Arizona is the one in real danger...OTOH...Jessica Capshaw, who plays Arizona just happens to be the daughter of Kate Capshaw which means she calls Steven Spielberg "Step-Dad" so she could be very safe, which puts Callie in danger again - IF - the religious right got their evangelical hands on MY TV SHOW!!! They did once before - even though it took time after the whole T.R.Knight/Isaiah Washington/Patrick Dempsey fiasco that resulted in TR being outed.

I think Lexie's death would be the most shocking for the staff of Seattle Grace - and affect more characters, but that's just me. And of course, one of the doctors in the crash, who appears in all the clips to be the least injured, could, in fact, have serious internal injuries (can we say MCSTEAMY?) and we lose Mark Sloane (which would CRUSH me, because he's my third favorite character - and I should state I mean of the MEN - because my FAVORITE characters, male or female, are, in this order: Baily (Chondra Wilson) and Christina (Sandra Oh) and, since she arrived a bit later, Callie).

And did I mention that there are several sites claiming that Izzy will return in season 9????

Oy.

I WANT my Meredith/Derek, I WANT my Christina/Owen, I WANT my Callie/Arizona. And I want Izzy to come back and end up with MARK SLOANE. Yep, you read that right. :) I think Izzy is the only woman (besides Callie - who is moot now, being a lesbian and all) who could keep Mark not only happy, but faithful.  And I want Baily to have her doctor too. *pouts*

Oh, well, only time will tell - namely four FREAKING plus MONTHS. ARGH!

I'm very worried about Callie and Arizona, especially after last weeks emotional pleas from Arizona for Callie to never leave her by dying like her brother and best friend. I feel like Callie is more integrated into the canvas, plus Arizona is on the plane, so I'm more worried by Arizona.

Arizona being killed sets up Alex to give up the Johns Hopkins job and stay at SG to take her place.

Yeah, that's my other worry

that Arizona's death settles the Alex question. I think that's what's going to happen. :(

My daughter Rachel and I are huge 'Grey's' fans, too. In fact, she's been using Netflix to catch up on the early seasons because she didn't start paying attention until around season 5 or 6 (she's 15). Interestingly, she adores T.R. Knight but she knows she's in for major angst when she gets to the part where he 'died'.

Bailey and Christina are our favorites, too. TBH, I would kinda cheer if Derek bought it; he can be such a colossal jackass (typical neurosurgeon, in other words) that it's hard to like him sometimes. I'd hate to see Lexie go, I've been pulling for her and Mark. And, seriously, I do not need Izzy to come back. Ick.

However, my plane-crash-death money's on Arizona.

I also watch 'Private Practice' and would love to see how Derek's death would affect his sister (who is also often very unlikeable) and his ex, Addison.

Oh, man, if it had been Derek

there'd be NO hope for poor Amelia!! Hell, she's carrying a dead baby, trying not to go backward in her fight against her addition...losing Derek would have sent her over the edge. But since we know that's not going to happen - she's got a fighting chance. *G* And yep, addicted to PP as well. Although...I'd like to STRANGLE Violet more often than not. And now Pete maybe off to jail? I'd heard there'd be shakeup on that show too - losing one, possibly two characters, so now I'm worried about Tim Daly. :(

Not something I watch. I avoid soaps with rather more dedication than I'd avoid plague. But I detest cliffhangers with a vengeance, and I'd cliff hang - by the neck - all producers who think they're a good idea. Though ... that's pretty well all of them, huh? If their show is good enough, people will fall on the next season avidly. They're watching for the right reason, because it's good, not to find out who lives and who dies - and if it isn't all that good, they mightn't watch beyond satisfying their curiosity. (I'm not saying this isn't good, of its kind - it has to have something since it seems to have lasted for a while.) I don't like two-parters, where you only have to wait for a week.

And we all know what happened with Sentinel, end of season three...

This isn't a new attitude for me. Even in the days pre-TV, when we only had radio, I always hated serials.

With fanfic, if something is a WiP (another word for serial) I'll save the bits but don't read it till it's finished; I've been stung too often by WiPs that were never finished. The first thing I do, if a completed story is posted in several parts, is join them together before I read; if I'm caught up in the story, I hate the mood being broken by having to hit 'next part' and waiting till the next part downloads... even if it only takes a couple of seconds.

And that, I think, is the problem with cliffhangers - a combination of the mood being broken and frustration/impatience to know what happens.

Cliffhangers can go hang themselves!

I'm so used to them now that they rarely surprise me - especially since Sentoo/2 - I mean, after that one, you know?

I didn't even bother to watch H50 last night. I knew if anyone was going to get shot, it was probably our "other cute leftover from Lost", the medical examiner, but I bet he lived. The show's been renewed for its third season, and so far, it sounds as though everyone has signed up (they're even trying to get James Caan back for a few episodes) - so I can easily wait until September for any conclusions, of which, given this shows history - there won't be. *rolls eyes*

I also know that Michele Borth (McGarett's sometime lover) is back but as a regular - which could throw a real wrench in our McWilliams pairing. :( And makes me worry a bit for Kono - I mean, if another woman is coming aboard - does that mean Kono has to go bye-bye? And her Borth's character *could* join the team, McGarett is just a naval as she is, so yeah, she could be assigned to him. :( Gaaaaaa.

Re: Cliffhangers can go hang themselves!

I don't object to actresses getting a fair crack of the whip, as it were, but - yes, you knew there was a 'but' coming, didn't you.

All my life, as far back as I can remember (9 or so, when I first joined a library) I preferred m-m interaction in stories, with any girls included having to be a tomboy, counted as 'one of the lads'. (In other words I read 'boy's books') As I grew older, I never outgrew that preference. Move to TV, no change in my preferences. But then - and I can't convince myself that a lot of it wasn't Hollywood's answer to slash - we began to get m-f partnerships in shows, and after a season of three that partnership began to take on tomantic elements... and Sheila is likely to stop watching. Back in the old Trek days my heark sank if thre was a female guest star, because there was a 95% chance that meant a 'romance' for Kirk. Even my mother used to comment on being tired of the hero of a show - any show - finding 'the love of his life' (only to lose her one way or another) every episode.

Sam Carter was fine until TPTB decided to link her and Jack romantically (and I never liked Vala - she never really fitted in) though I did watch it till the end - had to be the masochistic streak in me. Bones was good - until they decided that she and Booth had to fall in love. She was a career woman, married to her career, dammit! - and I stopped watching. Never watched X-files but I gather that was the same - Mulder and Scully had to have a romance? Why?

H5O - Kono - one of the lads - great. But they have to bring in more female characters, have them all kissy with the men... I'm not even keeping up with it, week by week, this season - recording it, then every two or three weeks, catching up.

If there are a lot of females in the cast list of a new show, I don't even start watching now, because I just know that's going to mean 'romance' in its sloppiest, most lazy writing form. I'm going over more and more to just watching documentaries.
