ANNOUNCEMENT
On March 1st, I'll be closing my yahoo group, "Alyjude's Cellar", a group formed for my fictions as they were created and for betaing. I'm closing it as I've not really been very involved in writing of late and, even though I have a few projects to finish, I honestly don't know if I'll succeed, but I sure as heck know not much will follow. I've posted this news to the group and offered a couple of ideas should I actually finish my current projects.

First of all, I'll be creating a special 'friends' category so that I can post the stories here, for their eyes only, and we can follow the process used at the "Cellar" for betaing, improving and suggestions for the story/ies. Second, for those not on LJ, and who don't want to join, I'll start an email list to keep them informed and a password that will permit them to view the stories and discussions and to participate.

If you want to be a part of the special friend 'group', just comment here. If you're not on LJ, you can still comment and ask to be a part of the email group.

Projects left to complete:

1. Prequel to Burning Bright (Burning Bright will be posted to the ASR3 this weekend) - for Janet (half-finished)

2. Sequel to The Wedding March (http://asr3.slashzone.org/archive/viewstory.php?sid=1296) - for Janet (half-finished)

3. Sequel to Merry Christmas - Almost (http://asr3.slashzone.org/archive/viewstory.php?sid=1260) in the Jake Universe - for Ande who wanted Blair to meet his new family and Jake his new "great gammy" (a third completed)

4. Complete the SG1/SGA WIP, Too Far and As Close As Possible (almost completed but has only been added to once since 2010)

Thank you to all the members of alyjude's cellar, thank you for your interest in my writing - and HUGE apologies for my inability to apparently continue the writing process. And finally, a very BIG thank you to those who took part in the beta process for the stories that were posted at the Cellar!

I'll hate to see the Cellar close - another of my fannish groups down the tubes. But I certainly understand, as I don't get out and read like I used to. The fic has gotten too spread out and I can't keep up. I will hope that you can finish your stories though. I've been reading your SG stories over at Alphagate and loving every one of them. Can I say, I miss the good ol' days? Please keep me updated.

That is a problem lately, isn't it?

So many fandoms - so many places for people to post. :( Anyway, I've moved you to my cellar flist group, so here's hoping I can make use of it, by, like, FINISHING a story! LOL!

.
I'm so slow, all the other betas always beat me to the marking pen. But I'd love to be a part of your special group.

Done!

already emailed you, but thought I'd better back it up here. :) BTW: I showed BJ (the lady that comes in once a month to help me) my newest piece of 'wolf' art and she drooled!! ALthough, I think I already told you that? She helped hang it in the photos I sent you. :)

Re: Done!

I got the email that you got the wolf -- it looks great on your wall. But nothing since I posted here. A blip in cyberspace, I guess.

That last comment is from me -- didn't realize I'd been booted out somewhere along the way! So, in case it didn't get through: count me in. Also, I wonder if we should consider starting a support group for writers to help us entice the muse back!
bluewolf458 From: bluewolf458 Date: February 2nd, 2013 08:02 am (UTC) (Link)
That's an idea... though...

I have dozens of ideas noted down... and I keep looking at them and thinking "I don't have the talent to write that!"
caarianna From: caarianna Date: February 4th, 2013 05:01 am (UTC) (Link)
Hmm, would you be willing to share some of those ideas?????
bluewolf458 From: bluewolf458 Date: February 4th, 2013 12:42 pm (UTC) (Link)
I've PMed you with some - if you think they're worth sharing around, then we can.
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 3rd, 2013 08:02 am (UTC) (Link)

You've made me think...

which is dangerous. :) Between jilltanith's worry about losing the archived discussions etc. when I close the cellar and your idea of a support group...I'm wondering if I shouldn't turn the cellar into just that? What do you think?
caarianna From: caarianna Date: February 3rd, 2013 08:48 am (UTC) (Link)

Re: You've made me think...

I think the cellar might make a great support group for stalled writers == you could mention it on the weekly chat because there are a fair number of us stalled sorts hanging out there. I like the idea that Sheila has ideas that might peak the muses' interests -- might help stalled folks get going on something different, a new take they didn't think of. She always has such great ideas. Maybe a chat about where we're at, why we're stuck == ie I worry that it's all been written before and, frankly, I find writing it again a bit boring. Maybe talking about these characters and why we'd still like to write about them might generate some energy and enthusiasm. Maybe people will have ideas about how to get unstuck, if part of the problem is that the story is stuck and the writer isn't sure where to take it. I don't know; maybe our enthusiasm about the characters has run its course but ... I hate to leave stories and series unfinished. And I used to love writing so much -- would be so good to get that back again. Maybe just talking again about why the buddy relationship, the hero/sidekick dynamic meant so much to us, what it said to us, might generate some of that energy again, that desire to explore the dynamic and tell its story.

Re: You've made me think...

Actually, even if a basic plot is reworked - everyone has a slightly different take on it.

Though it was why I stopped writing Trek - I felt I was beginning to repeat myself, and one reason I like AUs...
pengwinart From: pengwinart Date: February 2nd, 2013 07:20 am (UTC) (Link)
I would never make a good beta for anyone but I have never missed one of your stories. I have followed your writing since your first posting in parts, waiting patiently because I knew you could only post as fast as you could type. Of course I want to be part of your special group!
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 01:28 am (UTC) (Link)

OMG, someone who remembers

WebTV!!! God that was painful, wasn't it? So many people thought I was being cagey and didn't understand I had no computer! LOL! Sending stories in emails - ugh!!! Thank GOD those days are over. Although...I'd love to have something similar now - not for writing, but to surf on my tv, you know? *G* And you've been added to my new flist group! And THANK YOU!
bluewolf458 From: bluewolf458 Date: February 2nd, 2013 08:01 am (UTC) (Link)
I've emailed you as well, but count me in for betaing!
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 01:26 am (UTC) (Link)

Got it and DONE!

As if you could escape betaing anything I *do* manage to write? Not hardly! LOL!

I'd really love to get that Jake story done....

Although I don't know how much help I can be beta-wise, I'd love to be part of the special group if you'll have me :).
(I'm also going to be sorry to see the Cellar close, but like Sallye I can understand your reasoning.)
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 01:24 am (UTC) (Link)

You're now a part

of my new flist group! And thank you. I may be sending out another message on the Cellar now that folks have come up with another way to use it. *fingers crossed*

alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 01:22 am (UTC) (Link)

I've just included you in

my new flist group! And remember, most of my stuff is still up and will remain up as long as there's an ASR3 and K9's Kennel! LOL! I do hope to get most of my fics over at the Basement too, but I've been saying that for about three years now! LOL! I don't intend to ever take my stuff down (852 Prospect being the exception since I was banned there *G*) Now if I could just get my mojo back....

Poof!

You're now a part of it! :) That's one thing LJ makes so easy - grouping your friends and creating new groups of friends! :)
math_magician From: math_magician Date: February 2nd, 2013 07:42 pm (UTC) (Link)
sigh..another ending. I know TS wasn't on very long, but it touched so many, deeply. I'll always want to know when you've written or finished a story.

Another curious thing is that TS is never mentioned when Richard's filmography is listed. Wonder why that is?

magician113 From: magician113 Date: February 3rd, 2013 07:37 pm (UTC) (Link)
Just curious--where are you looking at his filmography? It's in the IMDb; in fact it's the very first thing he's associated with in the "Known For" section up at the top.

Go to www dot imdb dot com and search under his name. It pops up with his picture, and the words Actor, The Sentinel (1996)
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 5th, 2013 02:02 am (UTC) (Link)

If you're looking at Wikipedia, you're right

The Sentinel isn't listed because they end his filmography at 1999, but it is mentioned under "Career" in the second paragraph. Does that help?
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 01:18 am (UTC) (Link)

Don't think of it as an ending

but maybe something new will come out of this? *fingers crossed* :) And I've included you in my new 'friends group', so no worries (I hope!)
angelsmile1 From: angelsmile1 Date: February 2nd, 2013 09:09 pm (UTC) (Link)

just friended you and added you into

the grouping of my flist called 'the cellar'! :)

I'd like to help in what ever way I can
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 01:14 am (UTC) (Link)

Thank you, J!

I've added you to my new flist group, "the cellar"! How do you feel about the idea of keeping the cellar, but making it a writers support group for helping to deal with the dreaded writers block?
jilltanith From: jilltanith Date: February 3rd, 2013 03:33 am (UTC) (Link)
I'm not quite sure why you are closing the group, even if you don't plan to post to it anymore the archives would still be there, but I'd like to be added to your friends group, please.

Will the stories still be posted to your other LJ when finished?
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 3rd, 2013 08:00 am (UTC) (Link)

I'll be moving the archives

which consists of beta'd versions of stories etc - but you have a good point about conversations...there were some really good ones. Maybe there's some way to merge the list into caarianna's idea about a list for folks who are blocked? Mmm, need to think on that. :) But yes, I've added you to the cellar friends group for my LJ and yep, when (see? I'm being positive by saying 'when' and not 'if' *G*) those projects are finished, they'll be posted to my fiction-only LJ, and with the usual artwork too. :)
jilltanith From: jilltanith Date: February 5th, 2013 03:10 pm (UTC) (Link)

Re: I'll be moving the archives

Well . . . the NummyTreats group moved from Yahoo to Squidge in 2002, but the Yahoo archives are still there . . .

Edited at 2013-02-05 03:11 pm (UTC)
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 12:58 am (UTC) (Link)

Re: I'll be moving the archives

Okay, so does that mean if I close the group (and not morph it into a 'writer's block support' group, the archives will keep the messages? And if so, how do we access them? Or do you mean the nummytreats moved but didn't close the original yahoo group?

I'm so confused. *G*
jilltanith From: jilltanith Date: February 6th, 2013 02:50 am (UTC) (Link)

Re: I'll be moving the archives

I mean that NummyTreats moved, and closed the Yahoo!group to new messages, but left the old group as an archive. So now there's theold archive on Y!groups with the last message as a reminder that new messages can only be posted at the new group on Squidge.

alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 01:10 am (UTC) (Link)

Done, girlfriend!

I've added you to the 'cellar' flist :)
magician113 From: magician113 Date: February 3rd, 2013 07:48 pm (UTC) (Link)
I *hope* it goes without saying that my services are at your disposal. I was saddened to hear that you were closing the group, but perhaps you've found a way to morph it into a discussion arena? It is nice to have the coziness of a Yahoo group when you're baring your soul, etc.
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 01:09 am (UTC) (Link)

I'm seriously thinking

changing the group or at least enlarging it, to become a writer support group. I need to do some research at yahoo - I wouldn't want this to be a 'public' group, since, like you said, we'd want the atmosphere to be completely safe...so I guess I have until March 1st to decide! LOL! And thank you, R, I know I can count on you! Maybe you'd like to join me, Marilyn and a couple of others in trying to find the best way to make the cellar (a name that could still work - all the authors hiding in the cellar while they try to coax their muses back? *G*) a support group?
nuetronorange From: nuetronorange Date: February 3rd, 2013 07:53 pm (UTC) (Link)
I love your stories and would like to be on the list, please.
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 6th, 2013 01:00 am (UTC) (Link)

Just friended you and added

you to the special 'cellar' group of friends! :) And I love your icon choice. *swoons*

Do you know that one of your stories was recommended in the Fansite CrackVan story week?!?! IF someone Ever did that to one of my stories my muses would,,, well faint.

I just hope on all hopes that someday soon you will return to writing the Terrific stories that you do!!!
