UPDATE ON BIG BEAR ALPINE ZOO (formerly Moonridge)
For those of us who'd hoped the zoo would have its grand opening in 2014 - bubble bursting here.

Here's the latest news as of last month:

The zoo had hoped to break ground this summer (August), but the Environmental Study still hasn't been approved by the San Bernardino Board of Supervisors. Right now, the zoo hopes the board will approve by the end of this month so breaking ground is currently scheduled for October. Phase 1 (the zoo itself) of the project is estimated to take 14-18 months to complete, at which time the animals will be relocated.

I'm guessing you can do the math: *nods sadly*

Yep, early to mid-2016 is the best we can hope for unless a miracle occurs.

As for the auction, no decision yet (except to rename it *G*). May do a poll again. If you have any thoughts now, feel free to comment.

If you do one this year, when do you suppose it will take place. I've got to plan, because last year I was totally out of the loop.

If it happens
it will be late in the summer - late July and into early August.

I was thinking about and concerned about Moonridge with all the talk of that cop killer holed up in Big Bear. Apparently everything is all right with our animals friends though. Have you heard anything about that situation there or any issues related to the zoo?

The actual event with the 'shoot-out' was in an area
out of Big Bear itself - it was either in Fawnskin or...I've already forgotten the other city - shame on me! :( Anyway, scary for everyone up there, although based on the number of people interviewed - they all appear to have their own guns. Something tells me the residents are luckier than they know!

Oh, okay. The news here kept saying Big Bear... not only was I interested because of the proximity to Moonridge but also because due to discovering
Big Bear because of the Zoo, I'm setting a Starsky & Hutch story there, in the winter time. Those airial shots of the pine trees and snow were very inspiring despite the awful stuff the man did. Thanks fo.r the clarificiation

ways for all of us to get together. :( Unless we can go to England, of course, for GMOH. Which I sure can't! LOL!

Unless a miracle occurs and my muse comes roaring back, I won't be able to offer anything this year -- haven't even met my obligations for last year yet. Also, finances being what they are, I won't be able to contribute much, if anything, this year either. Sorry.

And I'm guessing most everyone is in the same boat, sweetie, which is why even without a poll, I'm leaning toward just animal adoptions and, per a suggestion from another fan, the Claim part of our usual auction. That allows folks to take on a claim because they can, and thus, no pressure or obligation, per se.

The individual who wrote me about the idea also came up with some great things that could be 'asked' to be 'claimed' from folks that have never been considered. Like writing tips from a favorite author, or the chance to discuss in a private chat a particular story - just really nifty new directions to go with Claims. This might be a whole different type of auction as we try to find new ways to be...well...new. *G* Got to get creative! LOL!
