And afterwards, you're like, on air? That's me. I finally came down today and can write about it.

I GOT TO MEET THE GREAT WRITER, ALOYSIUS!!!!

Or, here on LJ, alobear!

We've 'known' each other for years, but lost contact for quite awhile, until very recently when she reentered fandom life. We immediately jumped into each others arms (cyber-speaking), and when I found out she was actually leaving the UK for a visit to the States and would be in CALIFORNIA - and more importantly - SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA - well, let's face it: time to meet face-to-face!!!! And we DID!

The BIG EVENT was this last Tuesday as she and her wonderful husband were leaving her friend's home in Pasadena to travel to Joshua Tree, this enabling them to stop by my place (I wasn't exactly on the way, but close enough! LOL!) and spend the day. After offering several options, Dana Point and the Tall Ships became the plan of action.

I'm going to take a minute to pat myself on the back - because other than the length of her hair, Alo looked EXACTLY as I'd pictured her! And her hubby? An ABSOLUTE DOLL! And of course, I was able to listen to their accents all day (dreamy). Yes, I'm a confessed Anglophile, thanks to The Professionals! LOL! Anyway, I would have fallen in love with her hubby - except I'm old enough to adopt them - as my children. But I'm at least a year younger than her mom. :) Oh, and I did decide to ADOPT them, although having an American mother too isn't exactly something to brag about. *G*

I don't know if they had fun, but I did. And I have to thank Alo for my fish too! Yes, I dared to suggest to my British friends that we eat at a small 'hole-in-the-wall' Fish & Chips place in Dana Point Harbor called "Jon's", for lunch! (caarianna knows of the place of which I speak, since it's a favorite of hers now! *G*) and they seemed happy with their food (crispy calamari!). It was a ball exchanging 'fandom' convention stories and going through her convention book (yes, I AM JEALOUS but I love her so I'll get over it *G*).

I had my scooter - thanks to their willingness to put in and take out of my car - so we were able to walk (while I scooted) all over the Harbor and the little shops (where candy and a flag for a friend was happily purchased by them) before driving over to see the Tall Ships (both were at anchor, but closed for tours *pouts for my friends*).

After that, in my car, we drove up PCH to Laguna so they could actually go to the beach (at Aliso, where I could park about two feet from the sand and water - and it was AWESOME, the waves fairly large and loud and the water a beautiful azure). We then did a driving tour of Laguna, Heisler Park and the tide pools (although I think they decided not to walk down to them, but they did get to see the incredible view).

Unfortunately, it was finally time to head back to Dana Point and their car (they'd followed me from my place since we knew they'd have to leave from Dana Pt. to make it to their B&B at Joshua Tree). After a short stop at a market in San Juan Capistrano (they were also able to see the mission), it was time for hugs and sorrowful goodbyes. :( In fact, today, a major good bye because they're leaving for home across the pond. :(

I feel so fortunate in that every time I've met one of my 'online' friends, they've been as wonderful in person and Alo, who also had a husband fully aware of, and I think...into...fandom, was especially so. Maybe because her visit had an extra 'perk' - namely the fact that she gave me a copy of her new SG1 story, all put together in a plastic binder (she must know about cats and unprotected paper!), so I've been holding onto it, like a Christmas gift I can't open until Memorial Day! It shall be my version of having of huge barbecue party - me, alo, and SG1!!!

Oh, and if you weren't around in, say, 2002-2006, in the SG1 or TS fandom, well, aloysius is a new author for you to read! You can find her SG1 stories at Area 52 and yes, her TS is at 852 via AO3 (click on the 852 link and then the stories and you'll be redirected to them), and she has two Supernatural stories at A03, but under the name of "alobear" since aloysius was already taken. :(

Thank you, Alo, for a great day, and give your husband a huge hug from me, okay? Then he has to give you one, from me. *G* Have a safe trip home, daughter! LOL!

I'm glad you had such a great visit! It's always lovely to get to meet people you've known forever, even though you may not know their face. :)

*Wave* from back across the pond!

Rest assured, we both had an awesome day - thanks for being such a great tour guide, mom!

I'm glad you enjoyed it too - though apparently all we had to do was turn up and sound British! ;-)

Don't be too excited about that story, though - it's not a *new* one, you've read it before... It's my one and only TS/SG crossover, which I thought was appropriate, and is also one of my all-time favourites.

However, I have 11,000 words of a resurrected SG story on the go (must contact Catspaw about it), plus my newly arrived Sentinel DVDs to enjoy, so there *will* be new stories soon, I promise.

Not right now, though - I've been up for over 24 hours...
