I do not write this for birthday wishes, after all, the BD isn't until end of month, but I am writing this because I'm going to be...

I'm not sure I can type it.

I managed turning 30 without so much as a by your leave.

40 was easy (39 was HARD).

55 was COOL because here in CA it got me lots of discounts...okay, they were ...you know..
senior..discounts, but still...

If 55 was cool, 60 & 61 were pfft, and 62 just got me all the rest of the...you know...
senior...discounts.

But this month ... okay, I'll say it...

...
sixty-five

*THUD*

Pray.

Aly - this year I'll be 81... going on (roughly) 20. You're only as old as you feel.

And I'll wish you a happy birthday (when it comes) now, because I'm hopeless when it comes to remembering birthdays...

You're only as old as the person you feel - why does that sound grubby? *g*

Just remember - like wine and cheese we improve with age. Growing old is mandatory, growing old isn't!

Happy early Birthday! Sixty-five is awesome.

I turned 40 last year and random strangers (that my parents showed my photo to, because they're weird that way) said I look 25. That made the whole thing much less traumatic. :)

Not there yet (though I suspect my knees did some time ago)... but I'll follow you there, oh yes. The alternative, after all... {evil grin}

You should be proud of it. I'll be 55 in a week and am looking forward to it. I've always gotten strange looks because none of the usual birthdays have phased me.

I'm preparing to graduate with a double AS in Paralegal Studies in both transactional and litiation in April and then start my AA so I can transfer to UCF for my BAS in Legal Studies (Paralegal). I'm looking at probably being close to 60.

I miss your stories. I have them on my phone and constantly reread them.
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 8th, 2016 02:50 am (UTC) (Link)
BRAVO! I couldn't attempt that, I have trouble remembering where my keys are while I'm holding them. At 55 that was a 'sometime' thing...now it's...what was I talking about?
kaynyne From: kaynyne Date: February 7th, 2016 07:57 am (UTC) (Link)
Nothing wrong with growing old when you consider the alternative!
I'm 52 in a couple of weeks, the joints are about twenty years ahead of me but the brain has not yet reached puberty!
Happy special Birthday, *old sausage, may we all slash our way into retirement homes around the world:)

*term of endearment- honestly!
alyburns From: alyburns Date: February 8th, 2016 02:54 am (UTC) (Link)
oh my favorite Feb. birthday pal! How the hell are you, joints aside (which i understand...mine are 85)?????? And I LOVE 'old sausage'...that sums it up nicely. 😉 gosh i miss our old (younger) days!

Eh, I'll be 64 next month, so only 13 months behind you. True, I'd rather be younger, but it's not an option. ;)

The funny thing is my students (4th - 6th grade) trying not to call me 'old' if the subject comes up. They kind of tiptoe around the word, and then I say straight-out, "Yes, I'm old." (One sixth-grader said, "Dude, you can't say that; that's like calling her old!) I chuckled as I confirmed that was indeed the case. Along with my white hair -- quite visible! -- and emerging wrinkles, it's rather obvious. But I hope to be an example that becoming old doesn't have to be a big deal; kind of a senior version of "out and proud".

But of course, logic is not nearly as strong as emotional reactions, so good luck with the milestone. I'll wish for you to keep going strong for as long as you want to.

In three years time, I will be 60! I don't feel I'm the 'wrong' side of 55, but with all my aches and pains....
Anyway, enough about me, truth is, you have lived through so much! Kids these days will never experience the excitement of the moon landings for instance! They will never know how much freedom the first mobile phone gave us - because now they are a bloody nuisance, or the joy of being about to chat to someone over sea by computer for the first time. They will also never know the fear of pressing the wrong button and blowing up the whole computer! ;-)
Just remember; a good friend remembers your birthday, but forgets your age ;-D

Lol, yeah, I completely understand that 'how did that happen' feeling about turning 65; it's been 7 months and I still can't wrap my head around it. Feels impossible to be this old! Because I don't think I'll ever FEEL 'old'. Hmm, yep, have to say it's true, age is just a number. I'm no older, really, than, oh, say, 40 or so going on 20 something - and I suspect you are, too. ::grins:: Besides, you only think it's your birthday today but it's really next Tuesday, when Annie and I get to celebrate with you. So, for now, Happy Birthday and have a Happy Birth Weekend and, in a few days, we'll celebrate, Happy Birth Week!!! ::hugs::
