OMG - alyburns' (aka sideburns & alyjude) Hiding Place
If you spoke faster than David Hewlett you’d travel back in time: Michael Shanks
Keith Olbermann is out, gone, kaput.

I don't consider MSNBC to be a news show - so I don't get this. I just don't get this. FoxNews can get away with murder and they DO advertise themselves as a news program with reporters, but MSNBC, not so much, especially since they consciously tried to mimic the more successful FoxNews by having opinionated hosts, rather than actual reporters. They were successful in beating CNN and now are actively surging toward Fox, but with the loss of Keith? Not their best move, imho. He never pulled punches and that's what we need. OTOH, maybe we need the punches, just more delicately given?

Right now, the story is just breaking as folks watch his final show, so no accurate reasons are making themselves known. :(

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the comcast merger. (a merger that i think is a bad thing)

If so, then we can expect a lot more

of our faves going bye-bye, right?

I believe it is. My beloved Senator Al warned about this kind of thing.

Maddow talks about the important issues as a keen observer, a good reporter and an incisive commentator. Oberman talks about the issues as if here were a 'key player' overstating his own role as a commentator. In fact, his tweets are pretty disgusting engaging in name calling and in general he was turning MSNBC into a lib version of FOX. I'm sure their advertisers weren't happy but he had really gotten careless during this past year. It was more 'mansplaining' as well with poor grasp of women's issues.

I know he'd become more bitter as the

year progressed and people continued to follow the rhetoric of Fox News etc, and with his father's death, but he's never hidden the fact that he *is* opinionated and that his show would reflect that. But I think you definitely have a point with his Twitter. Although, in following the recent debacle, it was obvious he does not suffer fools easily - he should have ended the whole thing much earlier and then, when he came back on and it started up again, he should have stayed out of it, as hard as that would be. But it would have been the high road and, as a commentator who needs people to listen to him, to learn, he *has* to take that road, something Rachel does very well, as you said.

Keith always spoke from the heart - and we need that now more than ever, so I for one, will miss him. And I never noticed a failure to attend to 'women's issues' with him, but then, they haven't been at the forefront of the political landscape either, of late. In fact, it would be safe to say that he treated female candidates exactly as he treated the males. *shrug*
