Operation "SEE NO CELEBRITY APPRENTICE!" - alyburns' (aka sideburns & alyjude) Hiding Place
If you spoke faster than David Hewlett you’d travel back in time: Michael Shanks
Public Relations and publicity are the lifeblood of the entertainment industry, no doubt about it. But there are lines that should never be crossed no matter how 'important' the ratings. Some of those lines are straight-forward, un-bendable, unbreakable, while others might be a bit fuzzier, but they're still there. However, imho, what Donald Trump has done in the last several weeks - and what NBC permitted and participated in - has destroyed the line completely, to which I say, in the immortal words of Peter Finch from Network, "We're not going to take it anymore!"

The blatant attempt to manipulate us is beyond contemptible, beyond Freedom of Speech or Expression. Trump's attempt to use his supposed run for President as a way to give his show higher ratings was and is despicable (and somewhat backfired, thank GOD). His attacks; the same. He and his show pander to the worst in all of us; it's the train wreck we don't want to watch but must.

Truth is, we can look away because we're all better than "The Donald" thinks we are. Aren't we?

Part of his manipulations has been the fact that, until recently, he's been deliberately obtuse about whether he'd run for President and using that question to tantalize the viewing public into watching his finale by saying that at the conclusion, he'd announce - one way or another. This statement worked last Sunday by giving him his best ratings to date (unfortunately, the reading public may not be as smart as I give them credit as many assumed it was the finale as opposed to "Part 1"  *rolls eyes*).  And how clever - and desperate - to announce his not running at the same time NBC unveiled it's new fall schedule, which included Celebrity Apprentice (and adding that it would return with or without The Donald - after all, pandering is still pandering).

But I suspect most haven't heard that news and will tune in tomorrow - which is why I'm trying to start this movement! Tuning out will NOT hurt the the finalists nor their charities - the winner's charity will get the money even if NO ONE watches. In fact, one thing you CAN do, since the only redeeming quality to the show is that charities benefit, is that instead of watching, you donate to either Marlee Matlin's charity, The Starkey Hearing Foundation or John Rich's, St. Jude's Hospital. Or heck, donate to both if possible. BUT DON'T WATCH.

So in conclusion, the stupidity that was heaped upon us and the opinion that we, the viewers, are malleable idiots - deserves action - and that action is simple: Hit them where it hurts: in the ratings.

I realized during the last Olympics (on NBC) that I don't watch any shows on NBC. A far cry from their glory days of owning Thursday night and most other nights. So, I will sacrifice myself and not turn on NBC tonight. (snicker)
