Which Reality Show have they been watching?
The Republican race for the 2012 nomination for President has been interesting, hilarious, mind-boggling, and unprecedented - but in all reality (no pun intended *smirk*), I think the Republican base has been watching too many reality 'game' shows. The only question is: WHICH ONE? Decide for yourself - under the cut!

and does it matter?

Mr. Flip-flopper Supreme - who just needs to keep his mouth shut until the convention....

I'm going with Survivor. They lack the class for Amazing Race.

Good point

very good point *G* And Survivor actually encourages the kind of behavior we see. Yep, I agree. :) Although, on AR, we have a greater chance of seeing just how ... dumb... our fellow countrymen can be. *sigh* Especially about the world and geography, among other things, like reading....

you know, the goings on of the US elections make the shenanigans of the NZ election look charmingly quaint ::sigh::

Well, you know what they say...

American leads in everything - including stupidity. *preens while packing for her permanent move to Canada*

Naa, not enough nudity. Oh no, the thought of Newt Gingrich nude is too much before breakfast.

I have long maintained that the simple wish to sit in the hot seat - president, prime minister, whatever - to have that power - should be enough to have that person committed to a locked ward in an asylum. Many years ago I read an SF story where children were tested to see what work they would be good at, and their education was then subtly directed towards wherever their talents lay, and government posts went to those with the capacity to do them and the conscientiousness and honesty to do them well, but who didn't want to hold the position. Sometimes I wish that a system like that was, in RL, feasible...

I think they just want

the *trappings* of being President. People at your beck and call, the security (people ready to take a bullet for you), the White House itself, the whole 'aura' of being President. Watching the tv show, West Wing, I often wondered how, after all that...decadence (that's the only word I can think of) it must be impossible to return to normal life where once again you have 'to do' for yourself (although that protection is always there). And there's also the feeling that the President is more like your Queen than an actual public servant with *power*. This has been extremely obvious with Obama, who failed to take advantage of a Democratic Congress for his first two years and thus, here we are. :(

Yep, more of a figurehead - powerless for the most part except when given his own Congress. But you know, even then, his approval rating determines how much Congress will follow him! LOL!

Would it be possible to make a mashup so it can be "So You Think You've Got Talent"? I'm shuddering for our country.

Oh, God, I forgot that show. Although, Rick Perry would prefer (and Newt too) "American Idol"! LOL!

But seriously, I'm shuddering with you. But we're not alone in this crap - so many countries are going through it. It's like the world has been gassed with 'stupid' gas. Maybe it's aliens - as in from outer space - and world domination will go to the little grey men from another galaxy?
