MOONRIDGE DONATIONS URGENTLY NEEDED! - alyburns' (aka sideburns & alyjude) Hiding Place
If you spoke faster than David Hewlett you’d travel back in time: Michael Shanks

It's already the end of April and the Moonridge Online Auction begins in less than a month and a half and, so far, I've received a grand total of SIX donations. That's IT. Just SIX. I know I beg each year, but my knees are shot so getting down on them is a no-go this time. *G* PLEASE dig deep and DONATE and SPREAD the word throughout the land! :)

But seriously, PLEASE donate. Search the house, your talent, your memorabilia, anything and everything - WE CAN'T RUN AN AUCTION WITHOUT YOUR DONATIONS!

UPDATE: The photos and info for this year's animal adoptions should be up in the next week and the wonderful Virginia Sky is working on the website. Until it's up and running, remember, ALL UPDATES, EXPLANATIONS, and the FAQ can be found here:

When would you need to know by for fic donation? (Which may be a rhetorical question, since time and other factors are hugely messed up in my life right now, but I can't remember the cut-off point for When By...)

I take donations right up to

the last day of the auction, but obviously the sooner the blurb becomes available for folks to look at and start planning and saving *G* especially for a story by you, the better. :) And remember, you have a *minimum* of 90 days after the auction to write, finish, deliver the story/ies - that's a minimum and the readers know it can take longer, but again, for a fic by you, they'll happily wait once they've put in for it. One story by you, going for a minimum of $25, would bring in a ton. In 2010, you offered Sidewalk Sex for only $10 and yet raised $120. Your stories are worth way more! *G*

Re: I take donations right up to

Ack, RL, RL, why aren't there more hours in a day? Sorry to be so slow getting back to this!

Okay -- first, blushing here -- you're way too flattering! Thank you, but... see, I can't type/think(same thing, for me) when I'm blushing.

Second, I'm trying to wrack my brains and rifle back-files on my hard drive for anything possible -- I don't dare promise fic that's not already at least decently established, because I am totally made of fail otherwise.

If I survive this week (crazy RL stuff), I'll try to get my rifling and wracking back in gear this weekend and let you know if there's anything I won't feel I'll fail people with if I promise them. (Well, the fic might fail them, as far as them liking it, but I at least need to be able to feel confident I can GET them their fic before the end of the century.)

I haven't written up the blurbs yet, because of wanting to include a link to a sample of the podfics. I'm not done editing the second one, but I will be sending along a Sentinel podfic of Somewhere to Be by Arrow, and a Due South story of mine, which I'm also podficcing right now.

Also, possibly a bunch of Sentinel zines can be donated to the auction. I need to check with the original owner who was kind enough to give them to me to see if that's what she wants to do.

That's terrific, Laurie!

In 2010, your 2 podfic offerings brought in over well over $200!

As for the zines, those would go up as a "First come, First win" and could be offered a number of ways:

A) in small groups of, say, 3 zines (category-matched, like 3 anthologies, or 3 zines by the same author, or even a group of zines in the same realm, like 'drama' or 'H/C'. Or...
B) Each zine offered separately

A would create more 'winners', but B would give the winners more to look forward to. It's fun to decide which way to go, though. :)

hi aly! I forwarded the announcement/request on to 2 of the yahoo groups I'm on that are high multi-fandom traffic. Waiting to hear from the 3rd one's list-mom for permission to post.

I just haven't had a chance to go through my own stuff to see what I can donate this year.

Oh, excellent, Kalee!!

Make sure and post the Moonridge zoo URL so these 'newbies' can learn more about it!

Thank you!!!!

Re: Oh, excellent, Kalee!!

:-) I did include the zoo URL.

I took your template & added a bit of history (cribbed from the LJ site) at the start. This is what I posted:

What is the Moonridge Online Auction?

Since 2003, the fans of actor Garett Maggart ('Blair' on The Sentinel) have supported his official charity choice, The Moonridge Zoo in Big Bear, CA, with an online auction. Though it takes different forms the auction involves writers, vidders, crafters and fans donating whatever they can for the auction. Now representing multiple fandoms, most notably Stargate & The Sentinel, it features donations to bid on like zines, artwork, craftwork, even fandom unrelated items. There's also an animal adoption section if you just want to donate a bit of money for a cuddly animal. At the end all of the money raised is donated in Garett's name to the Moonridge Zoo to support the animals & their fund to move to a new, larger location.
Simply click this link to go read a history of the auction, Zoo info & donated amounts.

That's right, it's April which means you have two months to send in your blurbs describing the items/stories/art that you're donating for the auction! [even less time now that it's the end of April]

The template can be found HERE:
(this will take you to the gmfor_moonridge journal site - you do NOT have to be a member of Live Journal to access this site or comment)

Once there, click on the green line that says, "POLL RESULTS & FAQ" and scroll down to the FAQ.

Everything you need to know in order to donate - including the blurb template, and yes, feel free to copy and paste the appropriate template for your item and then replace with your specific information.

You'll also find all necessary dates as well as to any "HOW TO" questions you might ask. But if anything isn't covered, please email Aly at: alysideburns@gmail.com and she'll get back to you ASAP!

The FAQ will also explain the type of auction we're running this year - and why. :)

As soon as our Moonridge website is up and running with the 2012 information, an announcement will go out and you can begin to view the donations and animals up for adoption - so you can start saving up to get those goodies!

Thank you, and again, please pass this info on to other mailing lists, your journal, blogs, twitter and Facebook! And remember, we're multi-fandom now, so think of posting about the auction to new lists as well!
