Dear Jon Stewart, - alyburns' (aka sideburns & alyjude) Hiding Place
If you spoke faster than David Hewlett you’d travel back in time: Michael Shanks
Dear Jon Stewart,
Once again you've done it. You not only provided a good laugh, but offered up some heavy truths hidden in the humor. Thank you!

AND he's an equal

opportunity basher! He'll call out anyone, Dems and Repubs alike. :)

I sometimes get my news from him. It makes more sense and can make me laugh...

same here!

I may have to give up on MSNBC as a news source (I'll never give up my Rachel, though) - they're becoming very pompous and smug, and now, when showing the media's response to news (a response that agrees with theirs), they show ONLY their own people from MSNBC. It's like they're becoming the Fox News of Liberals - and Fox News is WRONG, no matter whose side they're on. :( So yeah, it's Jon all the way now - followed by Stephen Colbert (no one does a better impression of Fox News - only with that jab coming from the Left *G*). And when I'm really feeling like shit about politics and need to vent - thank God for Friday nights and Bill Maher (yeah, I know, he's not everyone's cuppa-cuppa, but he's mine because sometimes I need that straight-forward, snarky honesty delivered with his comedic timing, just to keep from exploding *G*).

Re: same here!

I have always loved Bill Maher. I thought it was just wrong when they fired him for being politically incorrect on a show called Politically Incorrect. I don't have the cable that has his show...

Re: same here!

I know!! I felt the same way. He had a guest on...I think it was two weeks ago... and it was the guy who started the mess for Maher. I found myself yelling at the idiot AND Bill, who, even though he knew he would be interviewing the guy, STILL didn't have his facts at hand. *silly man* *G*

"I've been on foodstamps and welfare. Did anybody help me out? No."

* Shakes head to try to dislodge whatever is stopping me from understanding this. oh right, my linguistics skills and logic circuits *

Yep, that was Craig T. Nelson, all right

He represents the portion of the Tea Party that skipped the "60's and 70's and moved straight to the 80's" (paraphrasing a certain favorite line from Field of Dreams *G*) or who have erased the person they were then and replaced themselves with an idiot. :( He's all those seniors at the Tea Party rallies who were holding up signs saying "End Entitlements!" and on the flip side, "Don't touch my Medicare!" To him and them, if they're receiving it, they EARNED it, but if you're not white, middle class and 'wise' - you're stealing it because you're lazy.

Yeah, you may have noticed - I get a bit cranky on the subject.

There's a video out now of Romney's mother talking at a fundraiser for her husband many years ago, and she tells how her husband had to live to survive after leaving Mexico - like using welfare and food stamps, etc.

I don't think her son is embracing that video since it means his own father was one of the, "47% of all Americans...who are freeloaders...." as Mitt stated so...elegantly. *snerk*

A couple of weeks ago I was having my hair cut in the salon that my hairdresser built in her lovely new very middle class home. I was listening to her rant about people who defraud the food stamp system. (According to her, nearly everyone who has ever used food stamps is a fraud) At that point her 22 year old daughter and boyfriend showed up with a form for her to help fill out so that her daughter could be eligible for public assistance housing. Apparently she teaches her children to cheat, because she thinks everyone else does and she means to get her share.

She let me know while I was there that she would never vote democrat because they perpetuate the welfare fraud culture...

God, that kind of person, of whom there are

far too many, are what make me endlessly sad. She's going to find herself with one daughter and tag-a-long boyfriend under one roof - when the next Republican president takes office. But somehow, she'll continue in total ignorance of 'facts', let alone, as President Bill Clinton said, "arithmetic".

Could Mr. Nelson sound any more ridiculous? A part of me hopes he was at least alert enough to go backstage and want to kick himself for such a ridiculous statement.
alyburns From: alyburns Date: September 24th, 2012 04:34 am (UTC) (Link)

Probably no kicking - he doesn't think welfare and food stamps WERE government help to him because he's no longer ON them. That's how that mentality works, and we're a sorrier nation for it. :(
